2023 BET Awards: Burna Boy wins “Best International Act” for the third time

 

Nigerian Afrobeats musician, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy won Best International Act at the BET Awards 2023.

The 2023 BET Awards ceremony was held on Sunday, June 25 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

The award’s theme this year was a celebration of 50 years of the hip-hop genre as well as of Black excellence in music, including dancehall, trap, and afro beats.

Burna Boy, however, was competing against Ayra Starr, a fellow countrywoman, as well as Central Cele, Stormzy, and Ella Mai from the UK.

Additionally, he beats other nominees in the category, including South African K.O, Brazilian L7nnon, French Tiakola, and Eswatini’s Uncle Waffles.

            

  The Nigerian musician was not present at the show for the award acceptance speech, but American-based Ghanaian comedian Michael Blackson stood in for the “Last Last” singer throughout the night.
