Camidoh loses To Libianca – See Full List of 2023 BET Awards Winners

 

Ghana’s singer, Camidoh lost the ‘Best New International Act’ category at the 2023 BET Awards to Cameroonian singer, Libianca.

The American-based singer and songwriter, whose real name is Libianca Kenzonkinboum Fonji, won the category ahead of Asake and Pabi Cooper with her single “People.”

She is best known for her breakthrough track “People,” which was released in 2022. The song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Afrobeats chart in the United States, No. 1 on the UK Afrobeats chart, No. 2 on the UK Official chart, and received extensive social media attention. 

Libianca’s song “People” has so far received Platinum certification in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Switzerland. It is gold in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Denmark before wining the prestigious award.

Meanwhile, Libianca has previously competed in the twenty-first season of the American television show The Voice in 2021.

In other news, Michael Blackson represented Ghana at the 2023 BET Awards as a guest and attendee. 

His presence at the prestigious award event on behalf of Burna Boy received the award after the Nigerian musician won the “Best International Act” category.

Michael Blackson’s accepting the award at the 2023 BET said “This is for the continent-Africa rightnow, for Afrobeats shoutout to all of you, Burna Boy congratulations, congratulations to Afrobeats, congratulations my continent. Everybody take a trip to Africa, go visit home” – he said.
